About the parts
Most arrangements are split into three families of parts: high, mid, and low.
High and mid share the melody and counter-melody. Usually the high carries the main melody and the mid plays a counter-melody, but many arrangements trade these off — the mid takes the melody while the high takes the counter-melody / accompaniment. Whichever way, high generally sits in a higher register than mid. (These aren’t “harmonies” in the Western sense: Arabic music leans on melody and counter-melody rather than stacked chords, though a little harmony shows up here and there.) Low parts are the bass line.
As we make more arrangements we’re standardizing on this convention. High and mid each come as part 1, part 2, or combined, in treble clef (C, B♭, E♭, F); low comes in bass clef (C) or treble clef (E♭). Typically high-1 is trumpets and high-2 is alto saxes / flutes, while mid-1 is trombones and mid-2 is tenor saxes.
Pick your part based on your instrument’s range and whether you’d rather live a bit more on the melody side or the accompaniment side — knowing you’ll do some of both. Not every song has every part or key yet; anything missing for your choice is listed after you download.
